To this day, my family keeps asking me about the whereabouts of “Paulita”, my fictional daughter in this Publix commercial.
This commercial is in Spanish and centers around a mother and daughter preparing for the “Quinces” (15th year birthday) of the daughter. The casting directors wanted me for the part but did not want my red hair. Being a redhead can be an impediment to getting hired, especially in Spanish-language commercials that frequently presume all Latins to be dark-haired.
So what was the solution? They dyed my hair brown for the commercial. The ad remains in heavy rotation all over Florida on Telemundo, Univision and other Spanish-language stations. My hair did not remain brown.
