Opened January 31st in movie theaters nationwide. And now, available on DVD!
Labor Day comes twice this year!
In another fine example of art imitating life, my journalism career is giving my acting career a big boost!
I made my first appearance on the big screen in a major Hollywood film called LABOR DAY playing a 1980s era anchorwoman, Meredith Jones. Opening January 31st 2014, the romantic drama stars Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin and Tobey Maguire, with whom I shared not only the makeup trailer, but a passion for espresso!
LABOR DAY is based on a best-selling book of the same day that charts 3 days in the life of a lonely widow (Winslet), her young son and how everything changes when an escaped convict (Brolin) takes refuge in their home. The events of that Labor Day weekend will shape the rest of their lives.
Half crime drama, half romance, critics praised the actors’ performances.
As an unexpected bonus, I worked on the film’s FINAL day of shooting, which explains why lunch was an orgy of homemade pies, fresh lobster, steak, chicken parmagiana and absolutely everything you can imagine would be served in a buffet in Heaven.
This was my first major film audition and the callback was with THE director himself, Jason Reitman, which was an experience unto itself, as he asked me about the reporter script he’d written for the film and we “talked shop” as writers.
The shoot in Massachusetts was smooth, nerve-wracking and delicious. Delicious? Sure, if you like lobster, steak and 17 types of pie for lunch.
